Before your electrolysis appointment, proper pre-care can make a significant difference in the comfort and effectiveness of your treatment. Here's what you need to know:
Drink Water: Staying well-hydrated is crucial. Hydrated hair follicles are easier to treat since electrolysis relies on the water content within the follicle. Ensure you're fully hydrated on the day of your appointment and for the day after.
Pain Relievers: To enhance your comfort, consider taking a pain reliever like ibuprofen 30 minutes before your appointment. You can also discuss the use of topical anesthetic creams like 4% lidocaine, BLT cream, or EMLA with your healthcare provider. Apply the cream to the treatment area at least an hour before your session, covering it with plastic wrap for maximum effectiveness.
Wear Comfortable Clothes: Choose loose-fitting attire for your appointment, ensuring you're at ease throughout the session. If you're having work done on your chest, a button-down blouse is a practical choice. Rest assured, our electrologists use proper draping techniques to maintain your personal privacy and comfort.
Shower Before Your Appointment: Arrive at your session showered, especially for areas like genitals and underarms. Maintaining personal hygiene is essential to ensure a pleasant experience. Your electrologist may need to reschedule your appointment if this is not observed, and charges may apply for missed appointments.
Trim, Don't Shave: Trim the hair in the treatment area on the day of your appointment using clippers, rather than shaving. If you've shaved, ensure that there's enough hair growth for tweezers to grasp, as this facilitates precise insertions and a more effective treatment.
Avoid Stimulants: On the day of your appointment, steer clear of stimulants like coffee, which may increase sensitivity to pain. Some female clients have reported higher sensitivity during their menstrual cycle, so consider scheduling around that time. The closer you can work to your pain threshold, the more effective the treatment will be.
Avoid Sun Exposure: Stay away from sun exposure 48 hours before your treatment. Sun exposure can dilate blood vessels, potentially extending your recovery time.
Avoid Retinoids: Refrain from using Retin A or any topical retinoid for at least one week before your electrolysis treatment. If you're on Accutane, discontinue use for at least six months prior to treatment. Using retinoids concurrently with electrolysis may lead to permanent pigment changes and scarring.
By following these pre-care guidelines, you’re ensuring the best possible experience during your electrolysis treatment, enhancing comfort and the effectiveness of the procedure.
