Congratulations on taking the first step towards lasting beauty with our electrolysis treatments. Proper post-care is essential for maximizing the effectiveness and comfort of your treatment. Here's a guide to ensure your skin heals beautifully:
Hands Off: Bacteria is everywhere, so avoid touching the treated area unless your hands are thoroughly washed. Touching your skin with dirty hands can lead to breakouts.
Apply Antibiotic Cream: The night of your treatment, apply antibiotic creams like Bacitracin or Polysporin. These creams help kill bacteria on your skin and prevent infections from cuts and burns. Apply with clean hands or cotton, three times a day, for up to a week. Follow the recommended dosage on the label.
Resist Scratching: It's normal for your skin to feel itchy for a few days following treatment. This is part of the healing process. Refrain from scratching to prevent creating tiny cuts and bacterial infections. Consider taking an antihistamine if tempted to scratch. If irritation persists, apply a 1% hydrocortisone cream, following the recommended dosage on the label.
Don't Pick Scabs: Scabbing is a natural part of healing, but picking at scabs can cause permanent scarring. Allow them to fall off naturally. Using antibiotic cream after treatment can help prevent scabs. Keeping the area moisturized also aids in preventing scabs.
Use Cold Compress: Applying a cold compress to the treated area can help reduce inflammation and swelling. This is especially useful for facial areas.
Epsom Salt Compress: If you experience discomfort during the healing process, create an Epsom salt compress. Mix one teaspoon of Epsom salt with half a cup of warm water. Apply with a clean washcloth for ten minutes at a time, repeating as needed until symptoms subside.
Stay out of the Sun: Immediately after treatment, avoid sun exposure to prevent abnormal pigmentation. Treated skin is extra sensitive to hyperpigmentation and heat. Use sunscreen with at least 15 SPF before leaving the house.
Avoid Hot Tubs, Saunas, and Pools: In the first 48 hours post-treatment, it's crucial to stay away from hot tubs and saunas. Your open pores can easily become infected in these environments.
No Workout: Avoid strenuous exercise after your electrolysis appointment, as excessive sweating can introduce bacteria to open follicles, potentially causing breakouts.
No Foundation for 24-48 Hours: Refrain from applying foundation or powder for at least 24-48 hours post-treatment. It's fine to use eye makeup, but ensure application brushes are clean. Wash your brushes with an antimicrobial cleanser before resuming your regular makeup routine.
Avoid Shaving: Wait for at least 24-48 hours post-treatment before shaving. Shaving can cause microscopic cuts and scrapes, allowing bacteria to enter follicles and potentially causing infection. Let your skin heal before shaving.
No Astringents: Avoid harsh products until your skin is fully healed, including perfumes, acne medications, and astringents with alcohol bases. Witch hazel is recommended for cleansing and can be used as a toner.
No Tweezing or Plucking: Tweezing can cause trauma inside the follicle, resulting in deeper, thicker regrowth. A little regrowth is expected, but remember, our goal is to make it finer over time.
Follow Your Treatment Schedule: Regular maintenance is essential for effective results. If you miss a scheduled appointment, you can clip, shave, or use a depilatory cream such as Nair to remove the hairs. Treating new regrowth early when the roots are less deep and thick ensures a more successful treatment. Regular maintenance helps keep hair fine and easily treatable.
